Twisp mayoral race a dead heat

The race for mayor of Twisp is in a dead heat after early counting Tuesday night (Nov. 3).

Bill Boosman and John Lomison both have 106 votes after the first counting of ballots on Election Day. The next count will be Friday (Nov. 6) at 5 p.m. Results of that count will be posted on the Methow Valley News website, www.methowvalleynews.com

In the only other contested race in the Methow, Joanne Uehara was holding a comfortable lead over town council member Jim Langdalen, 72 to 43 (63 percent to 37 percent).

Okanogan County voters were bucking the state trend by approving Initiative 1033 and rejecting Referendum 71. Statewide, I-1033 was losing 56 percent to 43 percent, and Ref. 71 was winning approval by a narrow margin, 52 percent to 48 percent.

A total of 6,938 ballots had been counted in Okanogan County Tuesday, and officials reported 2,222 left to count.
