Wesola Polana opens trailside eatery

More than a simple warming hut along the Community Trail near Mazama, Wesola Polana is a new eatery offering cross country skiers and passersby a hot meal and beverages for breakfast or lunch.
The new 40-seat restaurant opened last weekend with a traditional American menu, but plans are in motion to develop a European fare, complete with Spanish-style tapas, according to manager Pablo Climent.
Guests can enjoy locally roasted coffees along with eggs, country potatoes, omelets, and waffles, granola and fruit salads for breakfast. The lunch menu features sandwiches, chili con carne and the soup of the day, which is always vegetarian, he said. Now serving beer and wine, the restaurant will soon have a full-service bar, according to Climent.
Wesola Polana, translated “happy valley,” was named by owner Dr. Michal Friedrich, whose homeland is Poland.
Wesola Polana is located at 18381 Highway 20 between Mazama and the Weeman Bridge. There is trailhead parking and restrooms available. Wesola Polana is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
