Cowboy singer is the real McCoy
Grammy-nominated cowboy singer Don Edwards will present a concert of western songs and stories at the Winthrop Barn on Sunday (Aug. 1) at 7 pm. Paul Steuermann, cowboy poet and humorist from Mallot, will be the master of ceremonies for the show, and local cowboy singer Hank Cramer will perform the opening set.
Edwards, the son of a vaudeville magician, taught himself to play guitar by the age of 10, and fell in love with cowboy life watching “B Westerns” starring Tom Mix and Ken Maynard. By his teens, he was working ranches and chasing rodeos in New Mexico and west Texas. In 1961, he found work as a stuntman, actor, and singer at Six Flags Over Texas.
Fifty years and 16 albums later, the National Cowboy Heritage Museum describes Edwards as “the best purveyor of cowboy music in America today.” A historian, author, and musicologist, Edwards offers a musical portrait of the American West “the way it really was and the way it really is.”
Tickets for Sunday’s concert are $25 ($15 for children under 12). Call Kit at 996-3528 for reservations or more information.
